We had a big weekend. We had encouraged our kids and families to bring their friends and they did. Tons of guests. We brainstormed about how to connect with the kids in a culturally relevant way. How could we take something from their culture and use it as a tool to share God's Word with them? The answer for us was...Silly Bands! I'm sure you've seen kids in your ministry wearing them. They're everywhere! (it's one of those things you wish you had invented)
So we ordered silly bands and told all the kids that we would be giving them away to everyone who came. We found silly bands that were in specific shapes that we could use to communicate the Gospel. We then made the world's largest silly bands that you see below. (We made them by heating pvc pipe, bending it, and painting it.) They were exact replica's of the silly bands we were giving the kids.
I then wrote the lesson and we shared it with the kids. They connected with it very well because it was something from their everyday lives. Remember how Jesus taught...birds of the air...fish...coins...sand...all things from the culture of the day. He used everyday objects to connect people to eternal truth.
