Supervisor or Coach?

Our church has a new ministry Pastor named Ken Behr. He came from Life Church. He is overseeing all ministry from children to adults which obviously includes the God's Kids Team. Ken is a kind, wise, visionary, and relational leader.

I report directly to him and I am excited God brought him.  He has already helped me grow in several areas. Yesterday when we were meeting he gave us this great quote...

"If you tell people HOW to do something you are a SUPERVISOR, but if you tell people WHY they are doing something you are a COACH."

The thought really challenged me. I want to be a coach instead of just a supervisor? So what are some ways to make that happen? How are you a coach to your staff or volunteers?
