Disney Inspires Kids to Serve (see what they're doing)

Disney has announced an exciting new program that inspires kids to serve in their communities.

It's called "The Happiest Class on Earth" and gives 6th graders the opportunity to receive a Disneyland Resort Park Hopper ticket for completing a project that enriches their school or community.

Kids are given suggested list of actions that they can do individually or as a class.  They are also welcome to determine their own volunteer projects.  Kids are responding with excitement and are already making a difference.  One 6th grader, Nathaniel, has started volunteering at a senior living facility and is hosting book sales and coin collections for community causes.  Check out this video.

The kids in your church and my church are ready to serve.  Actually they are not just ready...they are eager.  And they're just waiting for you to give them an opportunity.  Will we inspire them to serve?  Will we give them opportunities to serve?

One of the best things we can do for our kids to help them grow spiritually is give them opportunities to serve.  Head knowledge alone will not ensure kids grow up to love Jesus.  Faith without works is dead.  If we want to see our kids grow spiritually, we must give them opportunities to serve.

Are we giving kids the opportunity to serve during weekend services?

Are we providing kids with service opportunities outside the walls of our church?

Are we giving kids the opportunity to go on mission trips with their parents?

Next week we are doing an event at our church called #Project Serve.  We'll be taking our 4-5th graders out into the community to serve.  Stay tuned for more details and a report from this project.

Here is also another way to give kids the opportunity to serve with their parents at weekend services.

Your turn.  How do you give kids the opportunity serve?  What are some other ideas to get kids serving?  Share your ideas and thoughts with us in the comment section below.
