You spend your time pouring into the lives of others. That's a good thing. Except when you don't have any margin in your schedule to invest in yourself. You cannot effectively invest in others if you are not being invested in yourself.

I often use the illustration about the oxygen masks that fall from the ceiling on airplanes. If you listen to the instructions, you will hear the captain say, "If you are traveling with a child, put his or hers on first before securing yours."

Why do they say that? It's because if you are passed out from a lack of oxygen, you won't be able to help those who are near you. Another illustration is running out of gas. You have to stop for gas or you will find yourself stranded by the side of the road. It's the same way with coaching. Coaching will give you the tools you need to finish strong.

Blind spots.

We all have them. We can't see them. That's why they call them "blind spots." That's where a coach comes in. A coach can help you find and see your blind spots and grow in those areas. This can play a major role in your personal and leadership growth.

If I was undergoing brain surgery, I would want an experienced, proven surgeon. As would you. If you want to grow as a leader, choose a leader who has a proven track record of building ministries. There are a lot of "coaches" who can give you advice, but they have never built anything themselves.

Our church attendance grew from 12,000 to 28,000 in 9 years. I led over 70 staff members who led over 2,000 volunteers who ministered to thousands of kids each week.
