Friday Night Tykes - Are We Pushing Kids Too Hard? (The Debate)

This Sunday night, America will celebrate the ultimate football contest...the Super Bowl.

Many of the players will be living a dream they've had since they were a kid.  And many of them begin preparing for this as a kid.

A TV show on the Esquire network called "Friday Night Tykes" has sparked debate about how hard you should push children in sports.

You can see what's causing the controversy in the video below.  If you'd like to share your thoughts in the comment section below, we'd love to hear them.

As a parent:
Ridiculous ... I played on 4 SEC Championship teams (national title runner-up senior year) and I wouldn't let any of those so-called "coaches" near my son. Beware of over-grown boys trying to work out their daddy issues by coaching youth league sports!

There should be a place in society for football. It provides one of the last venues for Christian young men to build a unique form of mental toughness, BUT ... for everything there is a season.

As a Kid Pastor:
It seems the dynamic of pushing our kids earlier and earlier to achieve more and more never seems to spill over into spiritual growth. Many parents have to the most laid back attitude about the most important part of their child's life.
