A Volunteer Training Strategy That Works

I'm often asked about our volunteer training strategy.  Here is an overview.  We have found this flow works very well for our team.

Orientation for New Volunteers

  • all volunteers go through a one-hour initial training where we cover vision, values, safety and security and other big picture items (here's an example of our orientation handout)
  • new volunteers then receive hands-on training for 2-3 weeks alongside an experienced volunteer in their area of ministry
March - Live Training at all of our campuses
August - Live Training at all of our campuses
November - Live Training at all of our campuses
  • held during weekend services
  • 1 hour in length
Weekly
  • video update/training for weekend service
  • below is an example of a video training/update

  • pre-service huddle

  • various training by area coordinators for specific areas
