“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.”
The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”
When an angel approached Gideon about leading the Lord's army against the enemy, Gideon immediately went into "I'm a nobody" mood. He basically said "I am the weakest member of my family and my family is the weakest tribe in the nation' Do you ever do that? You are given a ministry assignment and you immediately default to "I'm a nobody" and I can't do that.
But notice how the angel responds. He says, "You have been chosen for this task and I will be with you." He even calls Gideon a mighty warrior. You see, God sees what we can be, instead of what we can't be. He loves to take "nobodies" and transform them into "somebodies" that do great things in His kingdom. He shared with Gideon how God would use him.
Don't listen to the "you're a nobody" voices. Instead listen to the voices of those who believe in you and encourage you along the way.
Do you feel like a nobody? Guess what? That's exactly who God is looking for. He is looking for a nobody who will trust Him and cry out to Him for His help.
There's another side to this as well. As we look at other people, we should see everyone not as a "nobody," but as a somebody whom Jesus died for. Someone who is a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Someone who has potential to make an impact for the kingdom.
So many people are hurting and have no self-confidence that God can use them. They have been told they are a nobody so many times that they have started to believe it. But the opposite is true. They are somebody. See them as a 10 and minister with them at that level.
It's true. God didn't create any "nobodies." Let's be a source of encouragement to others. Remember...no one is a nobody.
